SONUS
Sinus Diagnostics for Clinicians
Sonus is a precise, clinician-focused device that provides objectives, point-of-care sinus diagnostics for physicians evaluating patients beyond what a physical exam alone can determine.
Built around a dual-sensor cross-validation system, Sonus combines A-mode ultrasound and near-infrared spectroscopy to measure sinus obstruction through two independent physical principles and automatically flag inconsistent readings - replacing subjective physical examination with objective, reproducible data, and giving physicians confident referral and treatment decisions in under two minutes, without CT imaging or specialist wait times.

Sinuses are invisible from the outside.
The paired cavities sit hollowed into the facial skeleton itself. There is no external surface to look at or visually inspect that actually shows what's happening inside.

A headlamp only sees the doorway, not the room.
Standard primary care exam tools can view the front opening of the nasal cavity.

The symptoms lie.
Facial pressure, congestion, and pain from sinusitis are nearly indistinguishable from the common cold, allergic rhinitis, dental infection, and even migraine.

Uncertainty has a cost.
Because physical exam alone can't reliably separate bacterial infection from viral illness, a significant share of antibiotics prescribed for sinusitis are unnecessary — a diagnostic accuracy problem, not a prevalence one.
beyond a physical exam, real answers take days and thousands of dollars — a specialist referral for endoscopy, then possibly a radiation-exposing CT scan, before anyone actually knows what's wrong.

Understanding the different Sinus zones
how might we design a primary care sinus diagnostic device that gives clinicians access to accurate diagnostic data for better treatment decisions — fast, affordable, and radiation-free?

Fully handheld — no cart, no console, no setup.

How Sonus Works:
Sonus combines ultrasound and near-infrared light at a single contact point — two independent physical measurements of the same tissue.
When they agree, the reading is trustworthy; when they don't, the device says so instead of guessing. Six sinus zones, objectively measured, in under two minutes.

Felt, not just seen - haptic confirmation at every step.
Distinct pulses for ready, measuring, and complete, working alongside the display.
The device shows the essentials. The connected display shows everything.
Wired directly to the workstation, every reading and trend, in full detail, the moment a scan completes.

The working is simple..
